Abstract
New graduate nurses lack the appropriate clinical judgement to provide optimal, safe, quality care, as evidenced by the report of errors in health care (Rodziewicz et al., 2024). The purpose of this project was to provide an evidence-based intervention that used an unfolding case study and simulation to further develop clinical judgement among undergraduate nursing students in a rural ADN program. The project used a pre-test and post-test to measure students' improvement prior to versus after the learning experience and debrief. This project also introduced a DASH tool, which is a debriefing assessment for simulations in healthcare, to help students and instructors evaluate the intervention of an unfolding case study and simulation learning experience on a postpartum hemorrhage client. The project used the DASH tool to gather students’ evaluations of the learning experience. The goal of the DASH tool was for students to score 5 or better on element 4 of the tool to improve the learning and debriefing experiences with the unfolding case study and simulations.
