Joyce Watkins (Class of 1965) and Hazel Brown are the first African American students admitted to Gardner-Webb Junior College.
Photo Description: Joyce Diane Watkins, member of the Day Student Association, Secretary-Treasurer of the International Relations Club, a delegate of the Model UN Assembly, and reporter for The Pilot, was selected as one of the six 1965 Outstanding Sophomore's chosen by a faculty-student committee who represent the ideal qualities of a Gardner-Webb student.
