Abstract
The growing number of Americans living with diabetes has reached an all-time high. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) (2026), there are 40.1 million people diagnosed with or underdiagnosed with diabetes. Evidence has shown that with education tailored to the patient's lifestyle, changes can be made and healthier lifestyles exhibited. Understanding the why of the patients can assist in changes that are feasible and can be implemented for the now and the future. Several studies outlined by Alonso-Carril et al. (2024), Lander et al. (2022), and Hodges et al. (2019) showed that education was implemented and an increase in knowledge was obtained and assisted patients change habits that could lead to comorbidities and death. Ensuring that patients are educated about their disease process can help change the narrative of diabetes as a disease and help end an epidemic.
