Abstract
This project was executed to provide obstructive sleep apnea education to the men and women of the rural community. Many residents of rural communities remain undereducated and unaware of diseases and disorders in which they are subjected to or have increased risks for. Obstructive sleep apnea affects approximately twenty-two billion Americans. Of those affected, nearly eighty percent remain undiagnosed and untreated (Nagappa et al., 2015). Victims of the sleep disorder fail to acknowledge signs and symptoms of obstructive sleep apnea, many oblivious to the etiology, risk factors, symptoms, and pathophysiology of the disorder. Presenting education to residents of the rural community will improve his or her understanding of obstructive sleep apnea, increasing the opportunity of pursuing examination by a provider, resulting in expedient diagnosis and treatment.
