1963: First African American Students Admitted to Gardner-Webb Junior College
Joyce Watkins (Class of 1965) and Hazel Brown are the first African American students admitted to Gardner-Webb Junior College.

1967: The Green Scribe Literary Journal is Published
The Green Scribe is published as the College's first literary publication. Later the publication would change names to One Little Candle (1969), followed by Reflections (1973), and finally the Broad River Review (2002).

1974: John R. Dover Memorial Library is Built
The current John R. Dover Memorial Library is built. Students create an assembly line to move books across campus.

1981: Second Hamrick Hall Fire
Hamrick Hall catches on fire, again. Hamrick Hall would be restored and accepted into the National Register of Historic Places in 1982.

1992: Gardner-Webb College Receives University Status

1995: Artis Gilmore Inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame.

1996-97: The Year of the Scholar Program
The Year of the Scholar program was started by Les and Joyce Compton Brown. The program would later become the annual Life of the Scholar Multidisciplinary Conference supporting undergraduate research and scholarship. The program celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2017.
