Description
For my summer scholars project, I worked to isolate citral oil from fresh lemongrass, which has a high citral content in its oil. Extraction was done by performing a steam distillation. Oil was then analyzed with various forms of spectroscopy to confirm the presence of citral. This experiment expanded on a previous study. According to research, citral has anti-microbial, anti-fungal, anti-inflammatory, and anti-cancer properties.
