Gardner-Webb University Holds the Line on Tuition Costs for Fourth Year

For the fourth year in a row, Gardner-Webb University has announced a freeze on tuition for traditional undergraduate students enrolled in the Boiling Springs campus program. The freeze will apply to incoming freshmen, transfer students and current undergraduates for fall 2022.

Alumnus’ Book Started with Writing Assignment After His Twin’s Suicide

Court Greene, of Canton, N.C., and his fraternal twin, Zachary, shared the same birthday and a special bond, but they were different in every other way. Court is a pastor and alumnus of Gardner-Webb University; while Zach faced many unforeseen hardships, taking his life down a much darker path. When Zach took his own life in 2019 at the age of 38, Court was thrown into turmoil and began a journey to find his way through the hurt and anguish.

Renovations to John R. Dover Library Meet Needs of Gardner-Webb Students

Since December 2021, the Facilities and Maintenance staff has worked to significantly transform the third floor of Gardner-Webb University’s John R. Dover Library. The floor recently opened to the delight and surprise of students. “They do love the space,” observed Dean of the Library Pam Dennis. “The looks on their faces when they get to the top of the steps is priceless!”

Application Deadline Extended to March 31 for Immersive Academic and Professional Opportunity in Nation’s Capital

Officials at Gardner-Webb University recently announced a new immersive academic and professional opportunity: The Webb in Washington. This semester-long program in Washington, D.C., is open to students in all Colleges and Schools at Gardner-Webb and will launch in Fall 2022 with an inaugural four-student cohort. Applications are due by Thursday, March 31, at 5 p.m.

Legendary Tonight Show Band Leader, Trumpeter Doc Severinsen Featured at Gardner-Webb

Every night from 1962 to 1992, trumpeter Doc Severinsen came into millions of viewers’ living rooms via The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson. When Carson retired, Severinsen and his band hit the road, and have continued to perform. On April 5, Doc Severinsen will appear at Gardner-Webb University. The special evening will include Severinsen and his wife, trumpeter Cathy Leach, with a conversation on their life in music. This intimate event begins at 7:30 p.m. in Tucker Student Center’s Stewart Hall.

Gardner-Webb and Town of Boiling Springs Host Webbstock ’22

Gardner-Webb University and the Town of Boiling Springs are rolling out the red carpet down Main Street for Webbstock ’22 on April 9 from 1 to 10 p.m. This new event, cancelled in 2020 because of COVID-19, brings the experience of jammin’ music, good vibes, and lifelong memories, and the best news—there’s no cost to attend.

Godbold College of Business and Cleveland County (N.C.) Chamber Host Empowering Women Panel on March 23

The Godbold College of Business at Gardner-Webb University is partnering with the Cleveland County Chamber in Shelby, N.C., to present Empowering Women, a panel discussion, on March 23 at 5:30 p.m. in Tucker Student Center. Held in recognition of Women’s History Month, the event features three women leaders from various fields and also pays tribute to some notable women in GWU’s history.

Nine Young Women Compete for the Title of Miss Gardner-Webb

Held in honor of Women’s History Month, the focus of the Miss Gardner-Webb Pageant is “women empowerment, confidence, grace and sisterhood,” said coordinator, Jessika Raduly, associate director of Student Engagement. The pageant features nine young women, who will vie for the title on March 27 at 3 p.m. in Dover Theatre.

Gardner-Webb Hosts Honors Experience for Academically Gifted and Talented Students

The Honors Experience at Gardner-Webb University is a one-week college immersion for academically gifted and talented students who are currently in the ninth- through 11th-grade. Scheduled for July 17-22, students will engage in two credit-bearing college courses while living in the residence hall, eating in the cafeteria and attending chapel.

Award-Winning Authors from Carolina African American Writers’ Collective Visit Gardner-Webb

Lenard D. Moore, founder of the Carolina African American Writers’ Collective (CAAWC), along with a founding member, Bridgette A. Lacy, will be featured guests for the Darlene J. Gravett Visiting Writer Series at Gardner-Webb University on March 31 from 4 to 5 p.m. Hosted by the Department of English Language and Literature, the free program is open to the public and will be held in Hamrick Hall’s Blanton Auditorium.

Gardner-Webb School of Divinity Hosts Award-Winning Author, Dr. Barbara Peacock

Award-winning author, Dr. Barbara Peacock, will present “Soul Care in African American Practice” on April 11 at Gardner-Webb University. In her book by the same title, she examines the lives and soul care practices of 10 significant men and women―Frederick Douglass, Martin Luther King Jr., Rosa Parks, Darrell Griffin, Renita Weems, Harold Carter, Jessica Ingram, Coretta Scott King, James Washington, and Howard Thurman. The publication received the “Christianity Today” Award of Merit.

Degree Completion Student’s Values Align with Gardner-Webb’s Mission

Whether on the job or in his free time, Lee Stiles of Morehead City, N.C., can be found helping people in the community. Stiles, who works full time with the Onslow County Health Department, is a student in the Gardner-Webb University Degree Completion Program. He graduates in May with a bachelor’s degree in human services technology and minor in nonprofit leadership.

Moderated by President William Downs, the all-star athletes relived their glory days, talked about rivals, signature moves and gave tournament advice to the Runnin’ Bulldog teams.

Distinguished Artist Series Features Organ Concert by Gardner-Webb’s Staff Accompanist

Timothy Scruggs, staff accompanist for the Gardner-Webb University Department of Music, will be the featured performer in the next Distinguished Artist Series concert. Scruggs, a GWU alumnus, has served in his position at GWU since 2003. His program of organ music will be on March 8 at 8 p.m. in Dover Chapel.
