Produced by Baptist Women in Ministry (BWIM), the film features the organization’s Executive Director, the Rev. Dr. Meredith Hare Stone.

Gardner-Webb’s Department of Natural Sciences Receives Funds for Undergraduate Researchers

North Carolina Independent Colleges and Universities (NCICU) awarded two of 11 Undergraduate Research Program Grants to students in the Gardner-Webb Department of Natural Sciences. Tuyet “Snow” Anh Nguyen, a chemistry major, and Kyndal Elaina Jackson, a biology major, received over $500 each to complete their research in the 2024 Fall Semester.

Members of Gardner-Webb’s Concert Choir Ready for Trip and D-Day Observance

The Gardner-Webb Department of Music started making plans last year for its trip to France to perform during the 80th anniversary of D-Day. Soon, the many hours of practice and preparation will be rewarded as 16 students and two faculty members experience the reality of Paris, Normandy and Caen. Generous supporters of the University helped to provide the funds to make this trip possible for the group.

Gardner-Webb Signs Bailey Wigness to Contract Extension

Gardner-Webb Head So!ball Coach Bailey Wigness has signed a contract extension, the Department of Athletics announced on Tuesday, May 28. This past season, Wigness led the Runnin’ Bulldogs to their highest finish in the Big South since the 2012 season.

Gardner-Webb Remembers Lives of Fallen Service Members During Memorial Day Observance on May 24

Gardner-Webb University faculty and staff, along with members of the community, gathered in front of Hamrick Hall on May 24 to pay tribute to those who have sacrificed their lives serving their country. In his speech, retired U.S. Air Force Master Sgt. John Whitaker shared a personal story to remember his friends who gave their lives on a mission to save others.

Gardner-Webb’s Annual Community Memorial Day Observance Scheduled for May 24

Retired Master Sgt. John Whitaker, a decorated war veteran, will be the featured speaker for Gardner-Webb’s Annual Community Memorial Day Observance and Prayer Gathering. The service will be held on Friday, May 24, at 9:30 a.m. in front of Hamrick Hall. In case of rain, the program will be held in Dover Chapel.

Seven Gardner-Webb Students Present Research at National Alpha Chi Convention

The Gardner-Webb University North Carolina Zeta Chapter of Alpha Chi recently attended the honor society’s national convention in Birmingham, Ala. Noah Seip won the Patricia Graham Prize for world history, and four students completed a collaborative research project. The theme of the convention was “Leaders for Tumultuous Times.”

The field of Positive Psychology emerged in 2000 with an article written by American Psychological Association President Dr. Martin Seligman. He proposed a new approach to psychological research. Instead of only focusing on what’s wrong with a person, psychologists should study what’s right with a person.

Gardner-Webb Announces Spring 2024 President’s List, Dean’s List and Honor Roll

Gardner-Webb University officials are pleased to announce the Spring 2024 academic achievements.
Students who have earned a 4.0 grade point average for the semester are named to the President’s List. These students must be enrolled in a minimum of 12 semester hours. View the list here (https://gardner-webb.edu/about/o!ices-and-departments/office-of-the-registrar/presidentslist/).
The Dean’s List is composed of undergraduate college students with a grade point average of 4.0 if enrolled for 12-14 hours and 3.7 if enrolled for 15 or more hours with no grade lower than a “C.” The list is available here (https://gardner-webb.edu/about/o!ices-and-departments/office-of-theregistrar/ deans-list/).

Gardner-Webb English Department and Broad River Review Host Foothills Writers Day

High school students from five nearby counties recently participated in Foothills Writers Day on the Gardner-Webb University campus. Sponsored by the Department of English Language and Literature and the Broad River Review, the literary magazine of GWU, the event featured four GWU alumni, who shared about their work as young writers. The winners of the Foothills Writing Contest were also announced. The contest was open to ninth- through 12- graders in Cleveland, Gaston, Rutherford, Lincoln or Polk counties in North Carolina.

Gardner-Webb Launches New Summer in the Springs Concert Series at Brinkley Amphitheater

A brass “dream team” and a Dove award-winning musician will perform in Gardner-Webb University’s inaugural “Summer in the Springs” Concert Series at Brinkley Amphitheater. The Rodney Marsalis Philadelphia Big Brass will entertain on June 8. Carl Cartee with special guests Shaylee Simeone and April Cushman will be in concert on July 20. Cartee’s event will raise funds for GWU mission and service trips for students. A third concert planned for Aug. 24 will welcome GWU students back to campus; details will be announced soon.

2024 Spring Commencement Ceremony Especially Meaningful for Dr. Sophia Steibel

As the procession of Gardner-Webb students and faculty march into Spangler Stadium on Thursday, May 2, the moment will be savored by everyone.
For one professor, Dr. Sophia Steibel, the 2024 Commencement Ceremony will mark three significant milestones. Steibel is retiring after serving the University for 30 years, and she’s been named Professor Emerita in the M. Christopher White School of Divinity. Most importantly, the Brazilian native will reflect on the impactful day 50 years ago when she arrived on Gardner-Webb’s campus for the first time.
