Spring Break Trip Provides Student With Perspective And Experience

Here I am, finally back stateside after an amazing Spring Break trip in Paris, France. That’s right, Paris, France – not Paris, Texas. This opportunity became available to me as part of an Honors travel course and was the first time I had ever been out of the country. I can say with little hesitation that it was one of the best experiences I have had through Gardner-Webb University.

Calligraphy Night To Bring Awareness To Human Trafficking

Gardner-Webb’s human trafficking awareness club, Release the Captives, is hosting a calligraphy night in Hope Hall of Tucker on Thursday, Feb. 25. The club will be providing lessons in calligraphy writing, while enjoying delicious fair-trade hot chocolate.

Campus Civitan Hosts Disability Panel – Students Share Their Stories

Gardner-Webb’s Campus Civitan held its first ever Disability Panel, April 13, at 5:30 p.m. in Tucker Student Center. Overall, the purpose of the Disability Panel was to engage the audience and address the topic about physical and intellectual disabilities, as well as teach people how to speak or interact with someone who has a disability.

Dimensions Requirements Reduced

The Office of Christian Life and Service proposed an alteration to the Dimensions requirements during a meeting with the faculty this past February. After a discussion between the Office of the President, the Provost’s Council and the Division of Student Development, the proposal was approved.

“The Hunt School of Nursing offers the traditional Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) Registered Nurse (RN) to, Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) program which includes education, administration and FNP tracks and the DNP program with educational leadership and administrative leadership tracks,” according to the Gardner-Webb website.

Mobile Thrift Store To Visit Gardner-Webb April 12

“Every 18 seconds a child becomes an orphan,” according to The Red Bus Project’s website. “There are currently more than 140 million orphans in the world.” In light of these statistics, a traveling thrift store (The Red Bus Project) came into existence to care for orphans while educating college students about the global orphan crisis.

Pageant Postponed Due To Winter Storm

The annual Miss GWU pageant was postponed on Saturday, Jan. 23 due to a winter storm. The new date will be April 17 at the Dover Theater.

Disc Golf Team Finishes 19th In National Tournament

Last week, April 13-16, the Gardner-Webb Disc Golf team traveled to North Augusta, SC for the National Collegiate Disc Golf Championship Tournament. In its second year of competition, the team landed 19th place out of the 49 schools competing; an improvement over last year’s 31st place finish.

Freshman Rachael Meachem was inspired to draw attention to accomplished African-American alumni and authors, after she wrote a reflection based on Dr. Albert Brinson’s visit for Dr. Paula Quall’s Old Testament class. Meachem has created displays for the library for the month of February, as well as a guest post about lesser-known individuals that have made a difference for civil rights.
