Gardner-Webb University will Celebrate Veterans Day with Service on Nov. 11

Gardner-Webb University will host a Veterans Day Service on Monday, Nov. 11, at 11 a.m. in Dover Chapel. The featured speaker is Cpl. Brandon Blair, a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps and senior pastor of Langston Baptist Church in Conway, S.C. The service is open to the campus community and to the public.

Gardner-Webb Students, Faculty and Staff Plan Election Watch Party

Gardner-Webb University students, faculty and staff will join together on Tuesday, Nov. 5, for a Bipartisan Election Watch Party. Held from 7 p.m. to midnight, the event begins in Faith Hall, Tucker Student Center. At 9 p.m., when The Gathering, student-led worship, wraps up in Hope and Stewart Halls, all three rooms will be open for the Watch Party.

Brittany Evans Finds ‘Immense Joy in Guiding Students on their Journey to Becoming Teachers’

Brittany Evans, a visiting instructor in the Elementary Education Program, has received the Nancy Francis-Gregg Day-Adjunct Award for 2024. Evans has served as an adjunct in the College of Education (CoE) since 2021. This semester, she joined the faculty full-time as a visiting instructor in the Elementary Education Program. She has recently taken on additional classes and is supervising student teaching.

Gardner-Webb Honors Students Bring ‘Enchanted Forest’ to Life at Broad River Greenway

Gardner-Webb’s basketball teams will officially tipoff for a fans-only event on Tuesday, Oct. 29, at 9:30 p.m. Join the ‘Dawgs as they present Bulldog Madness inside Paul Porter Arena. Doors open at 9 p.m., and admission is free to the general public. Wear a costume to compete for a prize.

Nursing Student Responded Within Days After Helene to Fly Needed Supplies to Western North Carolina

Blue Ridge Consort Presents Program for the Community on Oct. 26 in Gardner-Webb’s Dover Chapel

The Gardner-Webb University Department of Music will present a performance by Blue Ridge Consort on Saturday, Oct. 26, at 7 p.m. in Dover Chapel as a part of the 2024-25 GWU Distinguished Artist Series. Ignite Scholarship Helps McCoy Stowe Fulfill Goal of Becoming a Neurosurgeon

Gardner-Webb Athletics Hosts Teams from UNCAsheville and Montreat Displaced by Helene

Over the next few weeks, the Gardner-Webb University community might notice a few blue and white Bulldogs showing up around campus or even some blue, white and gold Cavaliers. These are the school colors and mascots for the University of North Carolina at Asheville and Montreat College. Both colleges have teams staying at Gardner-Webb.

Gardner-Webb, Ruby C. Hunt YMCA and Town of Boiling Springs Host Octoberfest

An annual fall tradition returns to the Gardner-Webb campus on Thursday, Oct. 24, from 6 to 8 p.m. Since 2005, Octoberfest has welcomed families, providing candy, games and fun for children. This year, the event will be held inside the Paul Porter Arena and outside, around the perimeter of Lutz-Yelton Convocation Center (LYCC).

Bands Unite for Hurricane Relief at Gardner-Webb University

Gardner-Webb University and the O!ice of Student Engagement will host the Western N.C. Benefit Concert on Sunday, Oct. 27, at 5 p.m. in the Brinkley Amphitheater. The event will raise funds and collect donations for disaster relief e!orts in the wake of Hurricane Helene. Three musical acts will share their talents—The Local Boys, Howltree, and Mason Cole— and offer the community an opportunity to come together in support of those impacted by the storm in western North Carolina.

Amanda Tyler, the executive director for the Baptist Joint Committee (BJC) for Religious Liberty will be the featured speaker for the Gardner-Webb University School of Divinity’s Mary Washburn Wilson Lecture Series. The free event will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 22, at 1 p.m. in Dover Chapel. Tyler’s topic will be “How to End Christian Nationalism.”

Ron Rash, ’76, N.C. Literary Hall of Fame Inductee, Returns for Program at Gardner-Webb University

Ron Rash, award-winning writer and professor, will return to Gardner- Webb University on the heels of his induction into the North Carolina Literary Hall of Fame. The ’76 alumnus will offer a public reading on Oct. 24 at 7 p.m. and take questions from the audience. The free event is open to the community and will be held in Tucker Student Center’s Stewart Hall.

Painter Hal Bryant Brings New Perspective to Old Abandoned Buildings

Hal Bryant has a talent for seeing the beauty in weather-worn farmhouses and barns; the magic in quaint landscapes and storefronts; and the mystery in dilapidated buildings or abandoned vehicles. A native of Greenville, S.C., and 1972 alumnus of Gardner-Webb, Bryant meticulously transfers the images from film into paintings on canvas.

Dr. Steven Harmon Recognized with Gardner-Webb Faculty Scholarship Award

During the 2023-2024 academic year alone, Dr. Steven Harmon, professor of historical theology at Gardner-Webb, wrote five research publications and presented four pieces of his scholarly research. Since 2003, he has authored five books and edited two multi-author books, and two more volumes will be available soon. He is co-editor of the forthcoming Oxford Handbook of Baptist Studies from Oxford University Press, and his solo-authored book, Vision Over Visibility: U2’s Theological Imagination, is under contract with Cascade Books.
