Nichole Ijames Wins Gravett Citizen Scholar Award for Her Dissertation on Resiliency of Black Female Principals

During her 25 years in public education—12 as an administrator—Dr. Nichole Ijames has relied on her own resiliency and witnessed that trait in her colleagues. Intrigued by these strong and confident women, Ijames chose to interview Black women principals and study their resiliency for her research in the Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership (EdD) program at Gardner-Webb University.

Gardner-Webb Ranked Nationally as a Top Five Private College in North Carolina

In its 2022 National University Rankings, Washington Monthly placed Gardner-Webb University in the top five among private colleges in North Carolina. GWU was ranked above Campbell (N.C.), Liberty University (Va.), Tulane (La.), Robert Morris (Penn.), Baylor (Texas) and Southern Methodist (Texas). This distinctive honor recognizes Gardner-Webb for excellence in three areas: social mobility, research and promoting public service.

For Dr. Jonathan Ahearn, Teaching at Gardner-Webb is ‘More Than Just a Job’

Eight months after Assistant Professor of Exercise Science Dr. Jonathan Ahearn fought back tears to write his resignation letter to Gardner-Webb University, he’s back at his alma mater. “I came back to Gardner-Webb, because It’s more than just a job,” Ahearn asserted. “It’s always been like that for me and (everyone) in the College of Health Sciences.”

Gardner-Webb Launches 10-Month Master of Public Administration

In the 2023 Spring Semester, Gardner-Webb University will launch a new graduate degree for public servants. The fully-accredited 10-month Master of Public Administration (MPA) will prepare students for successful administrative careers in local, state, federal, and non-profit agencies.

Support Runnin’ Bulldogs at First Home Game DAWG Walk on Sept. 1

Gardner-Webb Runnin’ Bulldog fans from across campus and in the community are invited to a DAWG Walk on Thursday, Sept. 1, at 4 p.m. The route begins at Tucker Student Center’s back patio. Cheer on the team as it heads to the locker room before the first Thursday night season opener at home in program history.

Gardner-Webb Marching Bulldogs Plan Energetic Debut at First Home Football Game

The Marching Bulldogs—Sound of the Springs—is eager to take the field for its first home football game on Sept. 1. New Director of Athletic Bands Dr. Sarah Fabian is proud of the enthusiasm band members have shown as they worked together to learn the halftime show. Practice began in early August, and members are excited to perform for Runnin’ Bulldog fans.

National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum Unveils GW Mascot Bo Bobblehead

The National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum has unveiled the first officially licensed, limited-edition bobblehead of Bo, Gardner-Webb University’s official live mascot, who began his service on Aug, 26, 2021. The bobblehead’s release celebrates the one-year anniversary of Bo becoming the mascot. The special edition bobblehead, representing Bo as a puppy, was produced by the National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum.

Gardner-Webb Celebrates Academic Achievements of Students at Fall Opening Convocation

Each year at the Fall Opening Convocation, Gardner-Webb University recognizes the outstanding academic achievements of its students. Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs Dr. Karen Aubrey presented the 2021-22 Scholastic Awards to 30 students with the highest GPA at the conclusion of one, two and three years of study at the University.

Gardner-Webb Offers Early Admission Advantage for Fall 2023

College-bound students, who are ready to join the Runnin’ Bulldog family at Gardner-Webb University, now have the Early Admission Advantage option for Fall 2023. Students who choose this option and meet all the qualifications and deadlines will be accepted for the fall and be notified of an estimated financial aid package by Jan. 16, 2023.

Dr. Elizabeth Amato Receives Gardner-Webb’s Excellence in Teaching Award

Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Karen Aubrey recently recognized the winners of the faculty awards for 2021-22. Dr. Elizabeth Amato received the Excellence in Teaching Award. This honor is presented each year to an exceptional faculty member with at least five years of full-time teaching service to the University. The award recognizes academic rigor, effective course design, and dedication to students.

A highlight of the day is the presentation of the inaugural Founders Medal. This award recognizes individuals who have contributed significant and distinguished service to the University. Gardner-Webb Celebrates Title IX 50th Anniversary

Gardner-Webb’s first women’s athletics teams predate Title IX by many decades, going back to the early 1900s when the institution was a boarding school known as Boiling Springs High. The school first fielded a tennis team in 1913 and a basketball team in 1916.

Gardner-Webb Sets New Records with Global Footprint of over 100 International Students from More Than 40 Countries

For the 2022 Fall Semester at Gardner-Webb, the student population includes 108 international students, the highest on record. According to the Office of International Student Services, they represent 45 countries on six continents. With a history of recruiting student-athletes from around the world, the University’s Division I athletics program is now home to 87 internationals. For student-athletes, the most popular majors are business administration and management, while divinity, ministry and missions appeal to non-student-athletes.

Mecklenburg County Students at Gardner-Webb Increase by 200% for Fall 2022

Gardner-Webb University faculty and staff are excited to welcome a significant number of Mecklenburg County, N.C., students to campus for the 2022 Fall Semester. Incoming students from the state’s second-most populous county have increased by 200% this year. These students and families are taking advantage of the new Piedmont Promise—which offers eligible Mecklenburg residents living on campus a minimum of 50% off tuition.

Gardner-Webb University Provost & Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Karen Aubrey has announced the addition of two new administrative positions in the College of Arts and Sciences. Dr. Kortni Alston, of Gastonia, N.C., will serve as chair of the Department of Communication, Art & Design. Joining the Department of Music as chair is Dr. Aaron M. Rice, who has roots in western North Carolina.
